Me: Good evening, Heavenly Father. There are a few questions that I struggle to find a comforting answer. Can you help me?
God: Good evening to you, my child. Of course, I can help. Don’t I always help when you ask me?
Me: Yes, you do. I don’t always receive a direct answer, though. I try to be patient, but waiting can be frustrating.
God: You speak of frustration, My child? I know it well.
But understand this: your frustration is not the root of your questions. It is the fruit of seeking answers apart from My wisdom. You wrestle in the dust for what is only found in the heavens. You cry out for clarity, yet you do not wait for My voice. Be still and know that I am God. The answers you seek are not always withheld, but sometimes veiled, that your faith may grow in the waiting.
Me: I have so much more to learn, and now I have more questions to struggle for an answer. But for now, I’ve been thinking about the storms and flooding in our area, the loss of life, the destructive power of the rains, and overflowing creeks. Why does this have to happen? Frustration? Your children are frustrated with the cleanup. We are frightened every time it rains, worried that the storm will be intense enough to cause additional flooding.
I do see some good in this, with neighbors helping neighbors, even when the neighbors are several states away from West Virginia. There is a love for one’s neighbor that is shown by all of us. We are providing money, supplies, food, and assistance with the cleanup. But we are tired, frustrated, and scared, not knowing what will come next.
God: My son, incline your ear and hear: you dwell not in a perfect world.
Though you labor and strive for what is good, perfection shall not be found under the sun. For the world you inherit is marred by sin, and all creation groans as in travail, awaiting redemption.
Know this: the desire for gain has become like a fire that consumes, love for neighbor has grown cold, and the works of My hands are treated with disdain. Above all, many hearts have turned from Me, the fountain of living water, and have dug for themselves broken cisterns that hold no water.
Yet do not think I speak this word against you alone, O son of man. This message is to all who bear the breath of life. Though you seek to walk in the way of My Son, yet you stumble, for all have sinned and fall short of My glory.
But My mercy is from everlasting to everlasting. Return to Me with all your heart, and I will renew your strength. Walk humbly with Me, and I will lead you to the land where righteousness dwells.
Me: We turn to You to thank You for all You provide and for support in times of difficulty. A tragic death deeply wounds our human understanding. Some families have lost a loved one, as well as their homes and possessions. We ask why this happens, and at times, Your silence feels overwhelming.
God: My Child, I Am With You.
I am near to the brokenhearted; I bind up their wounds (cf. Psalm 34:18, Psalm 147:3). Every tear you shed is known to Me—I keep them in My bottle, recorded in My book (cf. Psalm 56:8).
My love does not always calm the storm, but it steps into the storm with you. Even when the floodwaters rise and all seems lost, My covenant with you remains unbroken. The waters do not drown My promise.
In death—yes, even in death, which your hearts struggle to understand, I am not absent. I carry the soul to the threshold of My mercy, where judgment is tempered by love, and sorrow is met with eternal peace.
Remember what I told you in My Word: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you.” (Isaiah 43:2). These waters are the fears, the griefs, the floods of this life that come without warning. I did not say if, but when. Trials are part of the journey, but so am I.
Have I not promised to go with you? To uphold you with My righteous right hand (cf. Isaiah 41:10)? When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned (cf. Isaiah 43:2). I am refining you, not to destroy, but to prepare you for the glory that awaits.
Trust Me in the darkness, for I am the Light that no shadow can overcome (cf. John 1:5).
Me: All I can do is trust in You. I have nowhere else to turn for comfort, for answers, and to cry out in my fear, sorrow, and frustration.
God: I am always with you. I do not slumber, nor do I turn away (cf. Psalm 121:3-4). Rest now, My child. Let your heart be still. Your worries cannot undo what has been, nor can they control what is yet to come.
Be thankful for this moment—this breath, this day. For I am the God of now as well as tomorrow.
Leave the future to My providence, for “My grace is sufficient for you” (2 Corinthians 12:9), and “all things work together for good for those who love Me” (Romans 8:28).
You are never alone. I go before you. I walk beside you, and I guard your rest. Lay your burdens at My feet, and trust that I hold your story in My hands.
Me: Thank you, Heavenly Father, until our next conversation.
God: Bless you, My son, until our next conversation.
